Why Houdini & Nuke?
Houdini & Nuke are titans of VFX & CGI industry. There is not a single movie in the last 10 years that have not used Houdini or Nuke in some way.
THE FINAL LEVEL
Over the last 15 years I’ve tried my hand at many different software. From spending several months in Blender, to years in Cinema 4D, I’ve tried all of the major players including Maya, 3ds Max, After Effects, Zbrush, Substance suite and even Unreal Engine.
For a long time Houdini was just used for simulations, but for the last years the SideFX team made serious leaps to catch up in the other departments as well.
We now have Solaris for scene assembly, Karma for rendering, Apex for character animation & rigging, Copernicus for material authoring, and a ton of game integration tools.
As far as compositing goes, Nuke was and for years remains the king of compositing, having the most robust toolset and integration with 3D and live action as well.
While both Houdini and Nuke can be a bit tricky to learn at first, it’s really just because they have so many amazing features and cover many areas in 3D! Once you get the hang of them, you’ll find that learning these programs brings you incredible benefits in the long run
